UM Hawks continue to soar in Naascu caging
MANILA, Philippines– FIVE-TIME CHAMPION University of Manila, hunting for its first title in five years, crushed AMA Computer, 67-47, Saturday to draw closer to a semifinal stint in the National Athletic Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities men’s basketball at the UM Gym.
It was the Hawks’ second straight victory in the second round and 12th overall after a 68-61 victory over New Era last Friday that avenged their only first-round loss.
The Hawks own the Naascu record 86-game winning streak, which spanned five titles.
“That (five-title) dynasty belongs to another era,” said UM president lawyer Ernesto delos Santos.
The UM boss praised recruits from Davao including Rhandelle Colina, JR Ancheta, Eugene Torres and Janno Nunez.
For the second straight game, the 6-foot guard Colina powered the Hawks, making 20 points. Last Friday, against the Hunters, he fired 13 points.
STI also improved its record with a 66-35 victory over New Era in the second game. The Olympians are now at solo second place with an 11-2 card.
