SSC, Adamson try to seal Shakey’s V-League title duel

MANILA, Philippines—Top seeds San Sebastian-Excelroof and Adamson try to forge a championship duel as they seek a sweep of their respective semifinal rivals Sunday in the Shakey’s V-League Season 7 Second Conference at the FilOil Flying V Arena in San Juan.   The Lady Stags look for a repeat victory over the Far Eastern U Lady Tamaraws in the 4 p.m. match.   The Lady Falcons have a similar goal against the Lyceum Lady Pirates in the curtain-raiser at 4 p.m.   San Sebastian survived the absence of setter Bamcie Belen in posting a 30-28, 25-16, 22-25, 25-20 victory over the Lady Tamaraws in Game 1 last Thursday.   Joy Benito stepped up in Belen’s absence, sacrificing her scoring to set up her teammates, led by Jeng Bualee, who fired 26 points to key the Lady Stags’ romp.   Belen, who has emerged as one of the elite setters in the league a year after taking over the starter’s role, was sidelined by abdominal pain in Game 1, and coach Roger Gorayeb does not expect her to be back for today’s game.   If its any consolation, Gorayeb had more time to prepare for the absence of Belen than in Game 1 when they were given a day to sharpen up without their ace setter.   Adamson coach Dulce Pante has guaranteed a victory for the Lady Falcons in Game 2.   Definitely, we can finish the series on Sunday (today),” said Pante. “We have the advantage individually.”   Complacency, however, nearly did the Lady Falcons in last Thursday when they allowed the Lady Pirates to force a deciding set.   Nerissa Bautista and Angela Benting came up big in the fifth set and finished off a hard-earned 25-13, 17-25, 25-11, 24-26, 15-7 triumph for the Lady Falcons.   While San Sebastian could miss Belen anew, FEU is expected to have top attacker Rachel Anne Daquis back for Game 2.   Daquis skipped Game 1 because of an ankle injury sustained during practice early last week.
