MANILA, Philippines—Errol Spence Jr. believes his undisputed welterweight showdown with Terence Crawford will be the biggest fight in the sport in the last two decades.

And yes, bigger than the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao megafight in 2015 as far as Spence is concerned.

“This is a legacy fight for me. This is Ray Leonard-Thomas Hearns. This is Oscar De La Hoya-Felix Trinidad,” Spence, who holds the WBC, IBF and WBA (Super) titles, told reporters, as per boxingscene.com.

“This is a legacy fight. Two undefeated fighters fighting for [the] undisputed [championship at 147 pounds]. This is probably the biggest fight of the last 10 to 20 years. Everyone says the Floyd Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight was huge, but they were a lot older. We’re in our prime. This is going to be an amazing fight.”

True enough, Mayweather and Pacquiao were already past their primes when they finally went toe-to-toe in the ring—a dream fight that was six years in the making.

At that time, Mayweather was 38 years old while Pacquiao was 36.

And though it lacked fireworks, it still turned out to be the most lucrative fight in boxing history.

The bout between Spence (28-0, 22KOs) and Crawford (39-0, 30KOs) may not come close to generating as much revenue, the battle of the welterweight kings is expected to be an all-out war.

“Everybody knows he has knockout power, and I have knockout power. So we’re going to put on an amazing show and an amazing performance,” Spence said.

Spence and Crawford, the WBO titleholder, clash on July 29 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
