TNT is set to honor franchise great Harvey Carey by formally retiring his number during the Tropang Giga’s PBA On Tour game next week.

The team said on its social media accounts that a ceremony recognizing Carey’s contribution will be held on June 28 when TNT plays Meralco at Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.

Carey will be the second TNT player to have his number retired, joining fellow 2003 PBA Draft class member Jimmy Alapag.

Alapag’s famous No. 3 jersey was retired by TNT in 2015 during the PBA All-Star Game in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.

The Tropang Giga have already placed the banner of both Alapag and Carey at Moro Lorenzo Sports Center inside the Ateneo campus in Quezon City where the team holds its practice sessions.

Carey was selected fourth overall in the 2003 draft by TNT, where he played all of his 17 seasons.

He was known throughout his career for his blue-collar work and helped TNT win seven championships, including five in the All-Filipino/Philippine Cup.

Carey announced his retirement in February 2021, months after taking part in the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.

TNT issued the No. 4 jersey only once when import Matt Mobley played two games in the 2022-23 Commissioner’s Cup.
