MANILA, Philippines—Remy Palma and the Petro Gazz Angels are guarding against complacency heading into the 2024 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) All-Filipino Conference.

The Angels are fresh off a title run in the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) Champions League on Saturday but Palma knows that championship doesn’t mean anything in the PVL.

“I don’t think there’s anyone who doesn’t to be a champion. That’s the first thing in a lot of people’s minds but still, the process isn’t that easy. It’s a day-to-day process [to win],” said Palma in Filipino.

“We can’t just relax just because we became champions in a different league. It’s a different story here.”

Palma and the Angels went through the process on their way to the PNVF crown under Japanese coach Joki Tsuzurabara following a 25-19, 27-25, 25-22 win over the Cignal HD Spikers, who came into the title game undefeated.

That process continues in the PVL, where the real battle begins.

“We’ll go back to work right away. We’re looking forward, always. [This is the] PVL, we’re 12 teams, it’s a long conference so we need to prepare and get conditioned better.  Whatever result is given to us, we’re blessed but our focus right now is the process,” Palma said.

Petro Gazz will be led by Fil-American Brooke Van Sickle, who wasted no time in putting the PVL on notice with an MVP campaign for the Angeles in the PNVF tilt.

“I want to be there for my teammates. They have my backs, I want to be able to have their backs and the chemistry and relationship we’re building, I’m super grateful for it,” said Van Sickle.

“It’s nice to be able to go to the gym and every single day know that you’re working with your teammates for the greater purpose of winning. It’s good to have that goal in mind,” she added.
