Jaja Santiago bags awards as JT Marvelous settles for silver in Japan V.League

MANILA, Philippines—Jaja Santiago’s team JT Marvelous wrapped up its Japan V.League Division 1 campaign with a silver finish on Sunday.

Despite missing out on the top prize, Santiago was widely recognized for her showing being named into the Best Six of the V.League while also bagging Spike, Block and Fighting Spirit awards this season.

The Filipino middle blocker, though, couldn’t take home the championship as JT Marvelous succumbed to the NEC Red Rockets in the final, 25-27, 30-32, 25-16, 17-25

She finished with 13 points in the final game which was her team’s lone loss.

“The league has come to an end, and I just want to take a moment to express my gratitude. First and foremost, to thank God for His guidance throughout the entire year. I’m so thankful for a safe league, no injuries, and the amazing opportunities He has given me,” Santiago said in an Instagram post.

Nxled coach Taka Minowa, Santiago’s husband, was in attendance during the game in Japan.

“I was teary-eyed just watching Jaja play in the finals, but since both of my families were there, I remained calm after the game,” Minowa said in a Facebook post.

“But when she came to the second floor crying, there was no way I could keep calm, and I burst into tears without worrying about the public.”

Her PVL club Chery Tiggo also extended its its warm regards to Santiago.

“Another one for the books. Congratulations to our dear Jaja on yet another great season in Japan with JT Marvelous! The CHERY fam is always proud of you,” wrote the Crossovers.

In June last year, Santiago was signed by the Marvelous after her stint with Saitama Ageo Medics.
