NCAA postpones Thursday and Saturday games

MANILA, Philippines—The NCAA Management Committee has postponed scheduled basketball games on Thursday and Saturday due to heavy rains in a statement issued Tuesday afternoon.

Season 88 Management Committee chairman Rev. Fr. Vic Calvo, OP, of host Letran said that a meeting will be held on Friday to discuss the new schedule of the cancelled games.

“Due to the recent weather condition brought about by the Monsoon rains and in consideration to the recovery situation in flooded areas while other NCAA-member schools are being used as evacuation sites, the Management Committee has decided that the NCAA basketball games scheduled on August 9 and 11 (Thursday and Saturday) be postponed,” said Calvo.

Jose Rizal University and Letran, San Beda and San Sebastian were supposed to battle on Thursday while the Mapua-Arellano and Letran-San Beda double header were the scheduled Saturday games.

The Monsoon rains that has brought back the nightmarish memories of Tropical Storm “Ondoy” in 2009, has already taken 11 lives and up to now many parts of Metro Manila are still submerged in flood.

“Let us continue to pray for everyone’s safety,” Calvo added.
