Bullpups stretch win streak to 5; Tiger Cubs whip Eaglets

DEFENDING juniors champion National University stretched its unbeaten run to five games, while its women’s team also picked up a victory in UAAP basketball action yesterday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.

Reggie Morido drilled 19 points as the Bullpups drubbed winless University of the East, 78-59, to move a win ahead of other unbeaten squad Far Eastern U-Diliman (4-0).

Raphael Atangan and Ralph Busa chipped in a combined 26 points for the Bullpups, who stunned the Baby Tamaraws in last season’s finals.

The Lady Bulldogs, though, escaped by the slimmest of margins against the La Salle Lady Archers, 46-45, in women’s action.

Eden Alla nailed the marginal free throw in the closing seconds as the Lady Bulldogs tied their victims at 3-2.

In other juniors results, Alvin Ungria unloaded 31 points to power University of Santo Tomas past Ateneo, 83-77, while  Renzo Subido fired 24 markers to lift La Salle Zobel to a 78-69 win over Adamson.

Both the Tiger Cubs and the Junior Archers improved to 3-2 as the Blue Eaglets (2-3) and the Baby Falcons (1-4) slipped.

Meanwhile, badminton action rolls off today with Ateneo and UE vying to defend their crowns.

The Blue Eagles, led by last year’s MVP Toby Gadi, start their back-to-back men’s title bid against La Salle at 9 a.m. at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.
