Paris Olympics: Carlos Yulo punches strong start in floor, vault
The last time Carlos Yulo competed in the floor exercise in the Olympics, he made one bad landing early into his routine and could not make up for it to crash out of the medal hunt right in the preliminary round.
He did much better this time.

Yulo collected 14.766 points in the floor exercise preliminaries Saturday, (Manila time), finishing second to Great Britain’s Jake Jarman, whose 14.966 pushed him on top after subdivision 2 of the men’s floor exercise in gymnastics in the Paris Olympics 2024 at Bercy Arena.
Yulo scored 6.300 in the difficulty measure and was awarded 8.466 for execution to finish strongly in what was his pet event heading into the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
Article continues after this advertisementYulo failed to make the final in the Japanese capital after finishing in 47th place in the qualification round.
Yulo also placed sixth after subdivision 2 to stay in the running for a finals appearance in that apparatus winding up with a 14.683 after two runs at the vault.

He had a 5.600 for difficulty in vault 1 and added 9.300 for execution, but was penalized by 0.1 for his 14.800 total. He cleaned up his routine in the second vault, but his 5.600 difficulty was paired with an 8.966 execution for a 14.566 total.
The top eight in the individual apparatuses advance to the final.
The Filipino was in eighth place as of subdivision 2 in the all around, where the top 24 after the qualification round will advance to the finals.
Yulo’s 83.631 was 4.966 points off the pace set by China’s Zhang Bohen.
The men’s division of artistic gymnastics will have three subdivisions before the finalists are known.
Yulo, however, is already out of the running in four other apparatuses, even with subdivision 3 still to be played.
