MANILA, Philippines — Myla Pablo made sure not to waste the trust given by Petro Gazz coach Koji Tsuzurabara as she sizzled in her extended playing time to bring back the winning ways of the three-peat-seeking team in the 2024 PVL Reinforced Conference.
Since she returned to the Angels this season, Pablo has yet to receive a major role with the new-look team under the Japanese coach until Tuesday night.
With an opportunity to start, the 30-year-old outside spiker seized the moment and contributed 11 points as Petro Gazz ended the first round with a 25-18, 25-21, 25-18 win over Choco Mucho at Philsports Arena.

“Minsan lang ako bigyan ng chance bakit hindi ko pa gawin? Kung binigyan ka ng chance ng coach, i-embrace mo na yung gusto ng coach para manalo,” said Pablo, who backstopped Wilma Salas and Brooke Van Sickle.
“Sobrang happy ko na binigyan ako ng chance ni coach Koji to play this pero siyempre ginagawa ko lang yung best ko. Ayoko din naman mawala yung trust ni coach. Ginawa ko lang yung tama,” she added.
The former PVL MVP, part of the Angels’ 2022 title run, was eager to end their slump as they lost three consecutive games since winning their opening game against ZUS Coffee, losing a chance to reach the top three in Pool B.
“Siyempre yung tatlong games namin, down kami siyempre also the coaches din pero sabi namin hindi pa naman tapos ‘tong laban na ‘to,” Pablo said. “May mga games pa naman so doon tayo bumawi. Sabi ko nga sa kanila, huwag tayo mawalan ng pagasa, tulong tulong kami as a team.”

Pablo was relieved that her teammates recovered from illness in the past week, which took a toll on their games.
“Ang daming nagkasakit sa amin bago magstart yung mga games namin.:ahat nagkasakit pero sabi namin na parang pag nakarecover naman tayo bumawi na lang tayo sa mga remaining games natin,” she said. “Wag tayo madown kasi hindi pa tapos yung laban kumbaga proseso ng team. Basta’t heads up lang, sabi ni coach Koji na smile.”
Regaining their confidence before entering the second round, the Angels, who finished Pool B with a 2-3 record, seek to play better in the crucial phase against the top three teams in Pool A.
“Sa mga next games namin, kung sino makakalaban namin ibibigay namin yung best namin,” Pablo said.
