Wearing totally different outfits, Bianca Pagdanganan and Dottie Ardina went the right direction together on Saturday, giving the Philippines something to be super proud of in the suspense theater that was the final round of women’s golf competition at the Paris Olympics.

With both carving out four-under-par 68s over the tough-as-nails Le Golf National, Pagdanganan narrowly missed entering a playoff for the bronze and finished in a 13th place tie of an ultra-talented 60-strong field made up of a lot of major champions and a handful of former world No. 1s.

One of those was New Zealand’s Lydia Ko, who opened up a five-shot lead early but needed to hang tough down the stretch in gutting out a 71 for a 278 and a two-shot win over Germany’s Esther Henseleit, who provided the drama in the closing holes after firing a 66 several flights ahead. FULL STORY

MANILA, Philippines—Team Philippines’ Vanessa Sarno had a rough outing on her Olympics debut.

After failing to complete her initial lift in snatch with 100kg and exiting the competition early, the 20-year-old Sarno was unable to give Team Philippines a medal in the Paris Olympics 2024 women’s weightlifting event.

However, what’s more intriguing is that Sarno said she felt she had already lost as early as her days in the training camp in Metz, France.

“Sobrang naging down at mahina ako kasi ‘yong time na start ng Metz training, [parang] do’n ako natalo. Sobrang hirap gumalaw na ‘yong mga tao sa paligid mo, di ka na komportable. Sila dahilan bakit parang nagkadepression na ko sa sport ko,” said Sarno in an interview with Filipino reporters in Paris. FULL STORY

With the curtains to fall on the Paris Olympics and the Philippines to end it with its best-ever performance in a 100-year history of participation, it would be apt to just celebrate the achievements of Filipino athlete–-those who medaled or otherwise–for representing our country well.

But it’s not to be.

A video posted by the mother of golfer Dottie Ardina has gone viral as Team Philippines, which has one of the smaller delegation in these Games, did not look properly dressed for action at Le Golf National, which will be hosting the final round of the 72-hole women’s golf championship on Saturday with Ardina and Bianca Pagdanganan still having long-shot chances at adding to the PH medal count. MANILA, Philippines–The expectations weighed heavily on the shoulders of Vanessa Sarno on Saturday being the lone Filipino weightlifter remaining in the Paris Olympics.

Dottie Ardina was the better performer for the Philippines in the third round of women’s golf competition of the Paris Olympics on Friday as Bianca Pagdanganan slowed down a tad to now be seven shots off the pace being set by Lydia Ko and Morgane Metraux at Le Golf National.

Ardina finished birdie-eagle to submit a three-under-par 69 to give folks back home a lot to cheer for, although the pocket-sized Canlubang native remained out of medal contention at 217, 10 strokes off the gold medal pace and nine off bronze.

Pagdanganan had it at four-under overall early in her front nine. She had two of her four bogeys from Nos. 12 to 17 before that two-putt birdie at the 18th. FULL STORY
