UNBEATEN squads National University and Far Eastern University-Diliman continued to share the top spot after dumping separate opponents in the UAAP juniors basketball tournament yesterday at Filoil Flying V Arena in San Juan.
John Cauilan fired 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead a balanced charge as the defending champion Bullpups routed University of the Philippines, 69-47, to stretch their winning run to six games.
The Baby Tamaraws also improved to 6-0 following an 80-59 drubbing of Adamson behind reigning MVP Jerie Pingoy, who unloaded 21 points.
Pingoy, along with NU standout Hubert Cani, will leave for Mongolia tomorrow to join the Energen Pilipinas under-18 team that left yesterday for the Fiba Asia U18 tournament.
Juniors action will also take a break to give way to the national team’s international campaign.
In other results, University of Santo Tomas tripped La Salle Zobel, 78-71, to grab solo third at 4-2, while Ateneo blasted University of the East, 79-53, to climb to fourth at 3-3.
Meanwhile, badminton action resumes with men’s champion Ateneo (2-0) tackling FEU (1-1) at 9 a.m. at the Rizal Memorial Badminton Hall.
Other matches pit La Salle versus NU, UST against Adamson, and UP versus UE.
Women’s action starts at 1 p.m. with undefeated teams Ateneo and La Salle, both at 2-0, vying for the solo lead. Jasmine W. Payo
