UAAP: Quentin Millora-Brown, unbeaten UP look to stay grounded

MANILA, Philippines—After two weeks of the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball action, the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons stands alone at the top of the ladder.
Following a convincing win on Sunday at the expense of Far Eastern University, 69-58 and La Salle’s first loss later in the day, UP remains the lone undefeated team with a 4-0 record.
Article continues after this advertisementBut Quentin Millora-Brown and the Fighting Maroons know that there’s no cause of celebration just yet.

“I think we’ve been trying to get better every game. All of us know we have more to reach for. It’s still early, this is just the fourth game. We have a lot more than we want to achieve this season,” said Millora-Brown.
Article continues after this advertisement“I think all of us are just trying to stay grounded. We have to understand that this win is just one win out of many that we want to have. We have to make sure that none of us get complacent or lazy.”
Millora-Brown certainly showed no signs of letting up as he dropped another stellar game to the tune of 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Prior to their dominant win over the Tamaraws, Millora-Brown served as the squad’s leading rebounding machine with an average of 8.0 boards after three games with 6.67 points per game to match.
But his performances as of late weren’t just out of his prime physical condition and dedication to his craft.
Millora-Brown also credited coach Goldwin Monteverde’s mentality on team practices and said his words just echoed the team’s performances in the past four games.
“Coach Gold always starts practice with ‘just be consistent today,” he said .
“It’s not really a matter of having amazing days, it’s just having to be consistent every day, bring the same energy and attention to details.”
UP and Millora-Brown look to keep the same consistency en route to being grounded on Saturday when the Fighting Maroons go up against a win-hungry Adamson squad at the same venue.
