Board of Governors approves Mikee Romero’s Global Port entry to the PBA

MANILA, Philippines — Welcome Global Port Batang Pier to the PBA.

The league has approved the bid of sportsman Mike Romero and Sultan 900 Capital Inc., who recently bought the franchise of Coca-cola, to be a member of the PBA Friday following a special board meeting.

The Board of Governors gave Romero a nod, owing to his track record in backing the Harbour Center in the defunct-PBL and the AirAsia Philippine Patriots in the Asean Basketball League.

“Finally, we’re a bonafide member of the PBA,” said Romero following the decision. “I dreamt of playing in the PBA, instead I ended up owning a franchise.”

“[The] PBA warmly, wholeheartedly, accepts Sultan 900 Capital Inc. As the newest member of the league,” said the PBA in a statements on its official Twitter account (@pbaconnect).

Global Port will inherit the Powerade Tigers’ star gunner Gary David along with the trust guard JVee Casio, and other talents like Sean Anthony.

The Batang Pier will also pick 10th among a deep pool of aspirants in the first round of the 2012 PBA Draft Sunday and fourth in the second round.
