John Amores surrenders to police after shooting incident

MANILA, Philippines — PBA player John Amores has surrendered to the policemen after being involved in a shooting incident in Lumban, Laguna.

GMA News’ Unang Balita on Thursday reported that the NorthPort Batang Pier guard had already turned himself in along with his brother following a shooting incident that stemmed from a heated argument during a basketball game in his home province.

The Amores brothers went to RTC Sta. Cruz, Laguna on Thursday afternoon for the inquest proceedings. They are facing attempted murder charges as reported by the news.

Police Major Bob Louis Ordiz said in the same report that Amores and his brother surrendered because of the “threats” they received after the incident was caught on CCTV.

“He voluntarily surrendered to our station because of  the threats to their lives, both of them,” said Ordiz in Filipino. “That’s what they decided on since they were scared for their safety.”

Ordiz added that Amorez went to Barangay Salac for a basketball game, where he had a heated argument with the victim. The two were separated at the venue but met again at Barangay Maytalang for another exchange until Amores reportedly used his gun, which didn’t hurt the victim.

Two years ago, Amores was banned from the NCAA after his punching spree in Jose Rizal University’s game against College of Saint Benilde. 

The former Bomber received his second chance when NorthPort drafted him in the fifth round last year and has been showing good conduct. The Batang Pier wrapped up their Governors’ Cup campaign last Sunday.

NorthPort has yet to release a statement about Amores as of posting.
