MANILA, Philippines—What a difference a year makes for National University forward Kenshin Padrones.

Almost exactly a year ago, Padrones was filled with uncertainties as far as his young basketball career was concerned after he took an inadvertent elbow from former UAAP MVP Malick Diouf of University of the Philippines.

MANILA, Philippines–National University finally caught a break by extending Ateneo’s worst start with a 78-68 beating in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament Saturday night at Mall of Asia Arena.

Kenshin Padrones was productive with 18 points and six rebounds to help the Bulldogs halt a four-game skid. Jake Figueroa helped with 15 points, seven rebounds and four assists.

MANILA, Philippines — After promising to play better, Mo Tounkara stayed true to his word and led University of Santo Tomas to a winning record at the end of the first round in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.

The Malian big man put a premium on defense and rebounding to help the Growling Tigers stop a two-game slide following back-to-back losses to title favorites La Salle and University of the Philippines.

MANILA, Philippines—Just days removed from his 21st birthday, University of Santo Tomas star Nic Cabañero had one wish for his special day.

With UST in need of a victory after successive setbacks, Cabañero wanted nothing more but for the Growling Tigers to get back on the winning track.

MANILA, Philippines — The University of Santo Tomas coaching staff credited point guard Forthsky Padrigao for keeping the Growling Tigers together after losing back-to-back games in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament.

Padrigao restored the order for UST, tallying a double-double of 14 points and 11 assists as the Tigers beat Far Eastern University, 83-72, and finished the first round with a much needed on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

MANILA, Philippines–University of Santo Tomas ended the first round of the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament on a high note by shutting down Far Eastern University, 83-72, on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

The Growling Tigers (4-3) had a much better ball distribution and shooting in the second half to return to their winning ways after back-to-back losses.

MANILA, Philippines — From competing at the highest during their time in the PBA, Sean Chambers and Pido Jarencio look to outwit each other in coaching as Far Eastern University and the University of Santo Tomas collide in the UAAP Season 87 men’s basketball tournament on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Chambers has not forgotten playing against Jarencio when he was Alaska’s resident import against the Jarencio and Ginebra–formerly Gordon’s Gin–in the PBA during the mid-1990s.

Last year’s finalists National University and University of Santo Tomas completed a dominant first round after beating separate foes in the UAAP Season 87 women’s basketball tournament on Saturday at Mall of Asia Arena.

Runner-up NU finished a perfect 7-0 record in the first round after overcoming a hard-fighting Kacey Dela Rosa-led Ateneo, 66-58, while defending champion UST scraped past FEU, 66-57, for its sixth win in seven outings.
