MANILA, Philippines — EJ Laure is looking forward to bringing her leadership to the young Nxled Chameleons in the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference.
Laure has yet to make her Nxled debut but she was with the Chameleons during their game against her former team Chery Tiggo on Wednesday at Philsports Arena.
The 27-year-old spiker said she already recovered from a previous knee injury but she is still waiting for Italian coach Ettore Guidetti’s go-signal to play as she just joined the team’s training.

“Depende kay Coach Ettore. Kasi yun, since yesterday pa lang din ako nag-training sa kanila,” Laure, who joined an Nxled side which is still seeking its first win after losing its first two games, told reporters. “Pero nagbobola naman na kasi dati nung nasa Chery pa lang, parang nagre-recover pa rin talaga ako.”
Laure joined Nxled seeking a fresh start after an eight-year stint with Chery Tiggo.
“Gusto ko lumabas sa comfort zone ko. And siyempre new experience din kasi since ang tagal ko sa Chery,” she said.
After just a few training sessions, Laure said she quickly saw the team’s determination to win and her young teammates’ willingness to learn.
“Alam ko naman sa kanila, since nakikita ko naman sa training yesterday na parang willing naman silang gawin lahat. And alam ko naman, gustong gusto talaga nila manalo,” said the 27-year-old Laure.

“Siguro leadership talaga [dadalhin ko]. And actually kasi hindi naman talaga ako vocal. Gusto ko talaga yung in action ko gawin para hindi sila nape-pressure.”
The former University of Santo Tomas star also said playing for Guidetti reminded him of her Foton days under the tutelage of Serbian mentor Moro Branislav.
“Para kasi siyang Coach Moro type. Nakaka[challenge] agad yung mga gagawin sa training. Okay naman si Coach Ettore sa training yesterday. May pasensya talaga siya sa akin since nagre-recover pa ako,” said Laure.
