Kat Tolentino grateful for support, blessings after health ordeal

MANILA, Philippines — Kat Tolentino remained grateful in celebrating her 30th birthday despite the circumstances after undergoing surgery caused by a ruptured appendix.
In a lengthy post on social media Tuesday, Tolentino described her recent hospitalization as “everything that could go wrong went wrong.”
Article continues after this advertisement“This was not how I wanted my 30th birthday to go. But maybe it was an experience God knew I needed. It’s funny saying that because why would He want this for me. This was probably the worst pain I’ve experienced, I had a fever for almost a week, and went to the [emergency room] twice because my condition was misdiagnosed. On top of that, there were also some other complications that came up. But because of God’s Grace he still protected me from the worse,” wrote the Choco Mucho star.

“He reminded me that we are all human and we do not have control over the things that happen to us. He reminded me that even when I felt like I was so far from Him he was still right there the whole time. He reminded me of my blessings and how loved I am.”
The star opposite spiker, who was discharged before her birthday, expressed her gratitude for all the well wishes and greetings and the enormous support of her family, loved ones, and the whole volleyball community.
Article continues after this advertisementTolentino’s Choco Mucho teammates, including Deanna Wong, Des Cheng, Regine Arocha, Maika Ortiz, and Jem Ferrer, also visited her at home. The players also shared that they had a video call with Maddie Madayag, who is currently playing in Japan V.League.
“My mindset with every setback has always been “Ok, how can I come back from this,” “How can I become stronger,” “When can I start again?” But for the first time, the first thought that came into my head was “Thank God, I’m alive.” The timing of it all is something that is written by Him,” Tolentino said.

“I was discharged from the hospital the day before my birthday. He puts me through hardships but he also gives me moments of hope and people to carry me through it.”
Coming through adversity is nothing new to the former Ateneo standout, who had overcome three ACL injuries while playing through a lingering auditory condition.
