MANILA, Philippines — Detdet Pepito urged the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses to keep playing loose when they renew their rivalry against last year’s Finals tormentor National University Lady Bulldogs.
The Season 86 Finals rematch highlights the final day of the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball first round next Sunday at Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Since losing the opener to Far Eastern University, UST has won five straight games capped by a 25-20, 25-23, 25-21 sweep of Ateneo for a 5-1 record — behind unbeaten NU (5-0) — on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

MANILA, Philippines — Detdet Pepito is not only leading by example for the University of Santo Tomas Tigresses in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament, but he’s also juggling her student-athlete life teaching Grade 3 students in Manila.
The elementary education student once shared on her social media that she’s teaching science to young kids in her on-the-job training while their season is ongoing.
“I don’t really know how I balance it. It’s really just sacrifice because ever since Grade 7, even in elementary, I’ve been a student-athlete,” said Pepito, who had eight digs and eight excellent receptions in their 25-20, 25-23, 25-21 sweep of Ateneo to improve to a 5-1 record on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.”

University of Santo Tomas extended its winning streak to five in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament after making quick work of Ateneo, 25-20, 25-23, 25-21, on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.
“We’re thankful because this is the first time we won in straight sets,” assistant coach Yani Fernandez speaking on behalf of coach KungFu Reyes said.
Angge Poyos and Regina Jurado continue to spearhead Santo Tomas after dropping 19 and 14 points, respectively.

Bella Belen says Alyssa Solomon has ‘big chance’ to make Korean league

MANILA, Philippines — Bella Belen hopes longtime teammate Alyssa Solomon gets drafted in the 2025 Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) Asian Quota Draft for the next V-League Season.
Belen was happy to see her fellow National University hitter Solomon, who made the final list of the 43 Asian import aspirants. Maddie Madayag, who is currently playing in the Japan SV.League, Choco Mucho setter Mars Alba, and PLDT middle blocker Majoy Baron were also on the list.
“Ate Aly is the type of person who doesn’t share much unless you ask her. So when we saw she was trying out, I said that Ate Aly has a big chance,” said Belen in Filipino. “She’s been showing great potential, especially in this past UAAP and in international leagues. Hopefully, she gets picked.”

MANILA, Philippines — Alyssa Solomon confirmed that she tried her luck in the 2025 Korean Volleyball Federation (KOVO) Asian Quota Draft for the next V-League Season.
Solomon shared that an agent passed her requirements since it was just online and won’t have any conflicts in National University’s ongoing campaign in UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball.
“Actually, it was kind of sudden. I was focused on the UAAP at the time when an agent approached me and asked if I wanted to try out for KOVO,” said Solomon after scoring 16 points in NU’s 25-13, 25-23, 25-22 win over the University of the Philippines on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.

MANILA, Philippines–National University’s (NU) blistering run continued in the UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs remained perfect at 5-0 after handing a 25-13, 25-23, 25-22 decision to University of the Philippines (UP) on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
“Happy naman siyempre nakuha namin yung panalo pero yung situation ng second and third magkaiba kasi naka-recover din kami dun sa run ng UP pero knowing NU naman mga seniors na sila so alam na rin nila yung gagawin,” coach Sherwin Meneses said.

MANILA, Philippines — After missing four games due to an ankle injury, two-time MVP Josh Ybañez made a brief return for University of Santo Tomas in a loss to Ateneo in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament.
Ybañez saw action in three sets as a service specialist but the Golden Spikers saw their four-game winning streak snapped by the Blue Eaglies, 25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.
Ybañez, who sustained a Grade 2 right ankle sprain in their season-opening loss to FEU last February 15, said he’s still getting a feel inside the court as he continues to work his way to full recovery.

MANILA, Philippines — Ateneo snapped the four-game winning streak of University of Santo Tomas and spoiled the brief return of two-time MVP Josh Ybañez, 25-20, 25-22, 22-25, 25-21, in the UAAP Season 87 men’s volleyball tournament on Sunday at Mall of Asia Arena.
The Blue Eagles banked on the trio of Ken Batas, Amil Pacinio, and Jian Salarzon to assert their mastery of the Golden Spikers with a three-game winning streak in their head-to-head since last year.
