MANILA, Philippines–The UAAP Season 87 women’s volleyball action has been churning out one surprise after another, and Ateneo made sure they turned in their own with a statement, straight-set romp of old tormentor Adamson.

The Blue Eagles disposed of the Lady Falcons, 25-23, 25-14, 25-23, at Smart Araneta Coliseum to rise to 4-5 (win-loss) in the race, getting payback for a reverse-sweep loss in the first round.

AC Miner finished with 13 points while Lyann de Guzman chipped in 12. Taks Fujimoto had 17 excellent sets for the Katipunan-based squad who annexed a third-straight win, their streak featuring victories over University of the East and State U.

Shaina Nitura, who set a rookie record with 33 points in Adamson’s gutting of the Blue Eagles during the first half of the season, had very few answers for her squad managing only 21 points.

The Lady Falcons dropped to 3-6 overall, and missed out on a streak after a win over the Lady Warriors that would’ve also given the San Marcelino crew a breath of fresh air in the tournament’s second round after playing disjointedly in the first half.
