Wesley So bows to Indian GM, falls back to 3rd

Parimarjan Negi (Elo 2622) of India stunned Wesley So (Elo 2667) in the eighth round Thursday, dropping the Filipino to joint third in the Airports Authority of India Grandmasters Chess Tournament in New Delhi.

Negi prevailed in 27 moves of the Russian defense. So, 17, was stuck at 4.0 points, the same output of GM Viktor Laznicka (Elo 2681) of Czech Republic, and fell 2.5 points behind Italian leader GM Fabiano Caruana (Elo 2714) with two more rounds left in the tournament.
