NONITO Donaire Jr., will be brandishing a new weapon in his arsenal when he gets to face Toshiaki Nishioka on Oct. 13: an electrifying punch.
Probably in response to critics who said the 29-year-old failed to bring along his power punch when he moved to 122 pounds, Donaire was seen trying out his explosive rights at the mitts held by trainer Brian Schwarts.
“I don’t know but he punches real hard; it’s like my insides rattle when he connects,” said Schwarts on a video posted on YouTube and linked to Donaire’s web page. “It has a lot power and a lot of snap. It’s like sticking your finger to an electric socket that when it hits you, it sucks on your body.”
Donaire (29-1-0 with 18 knockouts) is putting his WBO and IBF super bantamweight titles on the line against the 36-year-old Nishioka (39-4-3 with 24 KOs) at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California.
The 12-round fight, which is also for the WBC Diamond Belt, will be a clash of two speedy boxers packed with power punches.
Donaire recently held a media workout at the Undisputed Gym in Bay Area where he showcased his booming rights that would complement his already renowned killer left hook.
He was also sparring with up and coming boxer from Detroit Eric de Leon, a southpaw like Nishioka only with a bigger built.
Nishioka, who decisioned Rafael Marquez in Las Vegas on Oct. 10, 2011 but dropped the belt in trying to avoid mandatory defense, has earlier described the fight as “the biggest fight of my career.” Many see it, though, as probably the Japanese fighter’s swan song.
The bout is also expected to draw boxing fans from all of Asia.
Donaire has a solid fan base in Tokyo led by president Kazuaki Miyauchi and frequents Japan to visit long-time supporter Dr. Oasmu Kato.
