Alvarez, Ching rule National Open shootfest

NONIE Alvarez, Jovito Teneza and Jerwinn Ching expectedly topped their pet events to share the limelight in the practical shooting event of the Philippine National Shooting Association’s 2012 National Open held recently at Marines Shooting Range in Fort Bonifacio.

Teneza ruled the 48-round open competition by edging out Eduardo Yao and Ching in one of the hotly-contested events of the event organized by PNSA headed by Harbour Centre president and CEO Mikee Romero.

Ching, however, rebounded to win the WA1500 men’s pistol and men’s 480-round production (Men) while Alvarez lorded it over the WA1500 revolver and WA 1500 revolver senior.

According to Romero, the three other aggrupations—pistol, rifle, shotgun and non-issf—also held their own tournaments with Olympian Eric Ang (shotgun), Tac Padilla (pistol), Julius Valdez (rifle) and Randy Paronda and Maria Theresa Clutario (N-ISSF Aggrupation) dominating.

“This is perhaps the biggest national tournament by an NSA in recent years,” said Romero, who likewise challenged all the winners to prepare for a major international event the country is planning to host next year.

Other winners were Geraldyn Cruz (women’s 48 rounds open), Clutatio (women’s WA 1500 pistol, 48-round), Gilbert Ng (48-round standard), Jose Mari Cortez (48-round production veteran), Gail Basa (women;s 48-round production), Emil Llames (48-round open veteran), Ariel Santos (action shotgun semi-auto), Grace Cadiz, Tony Lozano and Boy Tronqued (shotgun super senior award).
