Star-studded PCA Open starts Nov. 10

The biggest names in Philippine tennis, led by the current members of the country’s Davis Cup team, will see action late next month in the 31st Philippine Columbian Association (PCA) Open tennis championships at its famed shell-clay courts in Paco, Manila.

Foreign-based talents Treat Huey, Ruben Gonzales and Marc Sieber have confirmed their participation in the two-week event starting on Nov. 10.

This was announced by Jean Henri Lhuillier, CEO of event presenter Cebuana Lhuillier, yesterday during the press conference launching the tournament.

“From my end I would say this would be the biggest PCA Open because of the caliber of players who are seeing action and their world rankings,” said Lhuillier who also upped the prize money in the open competition by P100,000.

Filipino-German, Katharina Lehnert, ranked No. 444 in the world, will see action in the women’s singles along with national team mainstays Clarice Patrimonio and Marian Jade Capadocia.

Also present in the contract signing and press launch were tennis association vice president Randy Villanueva and PCA Open chair Roland Kraut.

The event is backed by Kia, Dunlop, Head, Babolat, PCSO, PVL Restaurants and Whirlpool.
