Zamboanga welcomes Peñalosa’s final act

MANILA—Gerry Peñalosa hopes to end his checkered career in style as he goes up against hai  Yodsaenkeng Kietmangmee in a 10-round bout highlighting the Oct. 10 fight card promoted by  Rep. Erbie Fabian at the Zamboanga City Coliseum.
 
The 38-year-old Peñalosa, appearing at the PSA Forum at the Shakey’s UN Avenue in Manila on Tuesday, said he will hang up his gloves after the fight, putting an end to a 21-year ring campaign that saw him capture the WBO bantamweight crown and the WBC super flyweight title.
 
The 22-year-old Kietmangmee holds a 12-win, 2-loss record.
 
Peñalosa, who appeared at the forum sponsored by Accel, Pagcor and Outlast Battery with Games and Amusements Board chair Juan Ramon Guanzon, said he isn’t taking the Thai lightly.
 
Fabian, who owns the Blue Stallions boxing stable,  is staging the fight card to assure the public that the city remains an ideal tourist destination.
 
“Zamboanga is as vibrant as ever, so we are inviting boxing fans to visit our place and watch Gerry’s most important battle,” said Fabian. “We hope to make Zamboanga a new sports hub of Mindanao.”
