PSC Cup int’l chess tilt slated

A prize pot of $30,000 is at stake in the Philippine Sports Commission Cup International Chess Championship slated Jan. 13 to 21 at Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

The tournament, the first international event of the National Chess Federation of the Philippines, is expected to draw several foreign grandmasters and will be played over nine rounds using the Swiss System, according to NCFP executive director GM Jayson Gonzales.

The winner will get the lion’s share of $6,000 from the prize fund put up by the PSC and other sponsors.

Time control is 90 minutes with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting in the first move.
