MANILA, Philippines—Gretchel Soltones showed the way as San Sebastian topped Arellano University, 25-14, 25-21, 21-25, 25-20, Monday in the NCAA Season 88 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan city.
Soltones easily came away with 26 points on two blocks as the Lady Stags stayed within reach of league-leader Emilio Aguinaldo College (7-1) and second-place Perpetual Help (6-1).
Jonah Corpuz chipped in 13 points on three service aces to help San Sebastian rack up its sixth win in eight games.
San Sebastian just couldn’t finish Arellano off quickly as the Lady Chiefs found a way to extend the match to a fourth set thanks to their net defense.
Meanwhile, Letran hammered out a 25-14, 25-11, 23-25, 25-16 drubbing of Mapua.
Sarah Espelita had 18 points to lead four Lady Knights, who won just their second game in seven outings, in double-figure scoring.
Mikaela Lopez tallied 14 points, Melissa Cu scored 13 while Jamaika Villas chipped in 11 points for Letran.
Elaine Sagun and Shirly Salmagos had 13 points each for Arellano, which blew a chance to tie Perpetual Help in the standings and instead fell to fourth place with a 5-2 mark.
The Lady Cardinals remained winless at 0-9.
