MANILA, Philippines – Adamson got even with University of Santo Tomas, 25-10, 25-19, 19-25, 25-16, Saturday in the UAAP Season 75 women’s volleyball tournament at the Arena in San Juan.
The Lady Falcons found their form early led by Sheila Pineda, Mayette Zapanta and Pau Soriano, who bounced back after their poor performance in a loss to defending champion De La Salle the last time out.
Pineda and Zapanta tallied 16 points apiece while Paul Soriano added 15. Faye Guevarra also gave Adamson, which separated itself from UST and Far Eastern University in the standings at 7-4, a lift with 13 markers.
“Pinaghandaan namin ang game dahil napakamasama ang talo nila sa La Salle. Tinignan namin yung morale nila na huwag bababa dahil hindi pa tapos ang second round,” said Adamson coach Sherwin Meneses, whose team avenged a five-setter loss to UST in the first round.
“Nagtulong-tulong sila at nag-step up especially yung quicker namin na si Guevara,” he added.
FEU (6-4) moved in fourth place, half a game ahead of fifth place UST (6-5).
Adamson on the other hand, moved just a game behind second place Ateneo.
Sophomore Carmela Tunay carried the load with 11 points for the Golden Tigresses with Maika Ortiz and Maru Banaticla still groping for consistency.
