MANILA—The Philippines is in for a tougher challenge when it vies for the overall crown in the second leg of the 2011 Asian Karting Open Championship (AKOC) set July 28 to 31 at the Carmona Racetrack.
The past years saw a tight battle between the country and Indonesia. This season, Singapore and Malaysia also beefed up their lineups.
The other participating countries are China, Macau, Hong Kong, Japan and India. Among the titles up for grabs are the premiere Formula 125, Senior Open class Formula 125 Veteran, Rotax Max Senior, Formula 125 Junior Open, Rotax Max Junior, Mini-ROK, Cadet SQ and Yamaha FSL Novice.
Defending Asian karting champion Sean Gelael is top favorite while Filipino Franco Reyes will compete in the Formula 125 Open Juniors.
