Nonito Donaire settles differences with promoters

LAS VEGAS—Filipino world champion Nonito Donaire said Monday that he has settled differences with promoters Top Rank and plans to defend his World Boxing Council bantamweight crown in October.

Donaire, 26-1 with 18 knockouts, has not lost in 25 fights over more than a decade. He won a world crown in his third different weight category last February with a second-round stoppage of Mexico’s Fernando Montiel.

“I’m very happy and pleased to announce a recent reconciliation between Top Rank and myself and I am also extremely excited to announce that I will be back in the ring this coming October,” Donaire said.

“There were some details that required attention and I feel confident now that my professional goals are being understood and respected by Top Rank.”

Donaire, who has won nine of his past 10 starts by knockouts, won the International Boxing Federation flyweight crown in 2007 and captured the World Boxing Association interim super flyweight title in 2009.

“We are thrilled to move forward with Nonito and capitalize on what we have built together,” said Top Rank president Todd DuBoef.”
