PH ‘tech men’ to work Subic Asian Triathlon

THE TRIATHLON Association of the Philippines (Trap) hopes to showcase its strong technical program when it stages the K-Swiss Subic Bay ASTC Asian Triathlon Championships 2013 next month.

Trap secretary general Mon Marchan heads the local organizing committee with Rachel Ribo Dumuk of the Philippine Sports Commission acting as chief technical official. Both hold a Level 3 ITO, the highest in the International Triathlon Union’s technical rating for race officials.

“We have been focusing on the development of technical officials since we started the Subic Bay International Triathlon in 1993 and it’s heartening to see the fruits of our efforts,” said Trap president and Philippine Olympic Committee chair Tom Carrasco.

Marchan, chair of the Asian Triathlon Confederation (ASTC) technical committee, lent his expertise to the 2008 Beijing Olympics, while Dumuk also served as ITO in both the Beijing and London Olympics.

Fabian David (Level 2 ITO) will serve as assistant technical delegate to China’s Qin Jianqui (Level 3) in the race set April 27 to 29.

Also taking charge in various legs are Alex David (run), Meinard David (swim), Armand Fabi (bike) and Willie Pabuaya (chief finish).

Trap vice president Red Dumuk (race accuracy), Level 2 ITO Rick Reyes (protocol chief), ASTC congress meeting project director Ting Joson and Sarita Zafra (marketing) round off the local staff.

Singapore’s Daniel Ang (Level 2) will help run the ParaTriathlon where Japan’s Kiryo Suzuki (Level 3) is the referee. Jasmine W. Payo
