Romero is main PSA Awards guest

Mikee Romero, the youthful, dynamic sportsman-businessman who embodies today’s active breed of sports leaders, will be the guest of honor in the PSA-Milo Annual Awards Night set tomorrow at the Centennial Hall of Manila Hotel.

The Globalport 900 Inc. team owner in the PBA, who is also the shooting president aside from being a polo player, will be joined in the presidential table by Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco and Philippine Sports Commission chairman Richie Garcia.

Romero will deliver the main speech during the two-hour special rites honoring the best and brightest achievers last year.

PSA president Rey Bancod of Tempo said Romero’s passion and unwavering love for sports are unquestionable, having been involved in basketball, baseball, cycling, shooting, mixed martial arts, and recently, volleyball and polo.

His youthful enthusiasm also makes him a perfect fit as guest speaker of a gala night celebrating the emergence of the young crop of athlete-recipients of the Tony Siddayao and Milo Junior Athletes of the Year awards.

The guest appearance of Romero, also the former basketball godfather, in the affair aired live over DZSR Sports Radio 918 and presented by the PSC, Smart, Meralco, Rain or Shine, Globalport 900, PBA, Sen. Francis Escudero, ICTSI and Philippine Golf Tour, LBC, SM Prime Holdings, and San Miguel Corp., couldn’t have come at a better time.

He is the manager of the La Salle Lady Spikers who recently won a third straight UAAP volleyball title.

Romero, Cojuangco and Garcia will hand the Athlete of the Year award to co-winners Nonito Donaire Jr., Josie Gabuco, Ateneo Blue Eagles, and the Manila women’s softball team.
