THE BUILDUP for the big leagues gets going when the Collegiate Athletic League (CAL) summer basketball tournament unfolds today at Trinity University gym.
A total of 14 teams, led by defending men’s champion National University and women’s titlist Lyceum, clash in the developmental tournament featuring the Team B of several UAAP and NCAA schools and other varsity squads.
San Beda College-Alabang (SBCA) and St. Paul College-Quezon City collide at 9 a.m. to kick off the six-team women’s field.
The eight-team men’s battle starts at 10:30 a.m with SBCA tangling with La Salle Dasmariñas, while Colegio de San Lorenzo and Olivarez College square off at 12 noon.
Other schools competing in the two-month league are Far Eastern University, University of Santo Tomas, Don Bosco Technical College, Trinity University of Asia, Enderun and Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Muntinlupa.
The tournament, sanctioned by Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas, is supported by PSC commissioner Akiko Thomson-Guevarra, Krooberg Outdoor Gear, Hoop It Up and organized by LAN Sports and Events.
