NATIONAL University tries to keep its perfect record when it battles Adamson even as Letran guns for a third straight win today in the Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.
Coming off a blowout win over Perpetual Help, the Bulldogs will be shooting for a sixth straight victory against an Adamson squad reeling from a stunning loss to Arellano last Saturday.
The Knights, playing with renewed confidence under coach Caloy Garcia, faces the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals at 4:15 p.m.
Letran outlasted San Sebastian, 96-94, in overtime last Friday with big man Raymond Almazan and rookie Rey Nambatac shining down the stretch.
Nambatac has cushioned the impact of the departure of Letran gunner Kevin Alas, who decided to forego his final year of eligibility to focus on the Gilas program.
Last year’s NCAA Juniors MVP had 13 points and nine rebounds against the Stags, capping his performance with two free throws that turned out to be the marginal baskets.
Almazan is making up for the time he mysteriously went AWOL from the Knights’ den with a string of sterling performances in the preseason tournament. He finished with 27 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks against the Stags.
Garcia, however, believes his team still has plenty of room for improvement. “We need to take care of the ball better,” he said.
The Bulldogs go into the duel with the Falcons, who dropped a 71-80 decision to the Chiefs last Saturday, after blitzing past the Altas, 94-65.
Meanwhile, Kiefer Ravena captured the Master Best Player of the Week for the second straight week after leading the Eagles to wins over Letran, University of the East and Lyceum. Cedelf P. Tupas
