ITF week 2: Locals get another thrashing
MANILA–For the second straight week, the Filipinos’ singles campaign ended in the second round yesterday when Anna Clarice Patrimonio bowed out in the PLDT-Smart ITF Women’s Tennis Circuit at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center. The 17-year-old Patrimonio, who has had impressive run abroad, lost to fifth seed Chan Yi of China, 7-5, 6-2. Anna Christine Patrimonio, Marinel Rudas and Tamitha Nguyen yielded to their respective foes in the first round. Anna Christine remained the last local hope, though, as she teamed up with Thai Kamonwan Buayam to oust Anna Clarice and Russia’s Anna Tyulpa, 6-0, 6-1. Anna Christine and Kamonwan will next take on Americans Ivana King and Yasmin Schnack, who beat Lee Hua-chen of Taiwan and Zhou Ya of China, 7-5, 6-2. Week 1 winner Piia Suomalainen led the quarterfinalists by beating Chinese Taipei’s Lee Jua Chen, 6-4, 6-0. She will face Thai Luksika Kumkhum, who ousted seventh seed Zhu Lim of China, 6-2, 6-1.
