How Pacquiao got nod of Ashanti to sing in his rematch with Bradley
MANILA, Philippines— Grammy-winning singer-songwriter Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas will sing the national anthem of the United States in the rematch between eight-division world champion Manny Pacquiao and Timothy Bradley this April.
Pacquiao in his Twitter account said Ashanti has accepted his request to have her sing the American national anthem at MGM Grand Las Vegas in Nevada on April 12.
Article continues after this advertisementAshanti met Pacquiao during the Knicks game last month. During their chat, the boxing icon asked the singer if she could grace his next fight by singing the anthem.
Reports said Ashanti has Filipino roots on her father’s side, while her mother is reportedly of African-American and Puerto Rican roots.
Article continues after this advertisementAshanti released her self-titled album in 2002 and since then topped the billboard charts with her hit songs “Foolish,” “Always on Time,” and “What’s Luv?”
Ashanti has so far released five studio albums including the 2004 Grammy winner “Chapter II.”
As of posting time, there is no word yet on who will sing the Philippine National Anthem at the fight.
