MANILA, Philippines — One solid proof that Chiang Kai Shek College has a very successful basketball program is the rise of John Vincent Gallego as one of the country’s top high school players.

Gallego’s brilliant all-around performance is the primary reason why the Blue Dragons are on a roll.

With Gallego exploding for 32 points, including 11 in the payoff period, the Blue Dragons stunned UAAP champion National University, 88-80, to rule the recent Seaoil NBTC National Finals.

The win did not only enhance the status of Chiang Kai Shek College as one of the best high school teams in the country but also established the 5-foot-10 Gallego as one of the bright collegiate prospects next year.

FEATURED STORIES

The 15-year-old Gallego was so consistent and deadly he went on to win the Most Outstanding Player award over a dozen of marquee players, including Ateneo’s Thirdy Ravena and reigning UAAP MVP Hubert Cani.

Gallego’s former CKSC elementary coach Joel Yap, however, was not surprised with his latest award, saying he saw a great potential in his former ward.

“He has now metamorphosed into one complete player, with a pull-up jumper. He’s the young version of Kiefer Ravena so watch out for him,” said Yap. “He has still one year left to play for us so expect him to reap more awards.”

Chiang Kai Shek College’s win in the Seaoil NBTC finals is a huge follow-up to its victory in the BEST Center-organized, Milo-sponsored National Twin Tournaments where it beat University of San Carlos of Cebu in the Passarelle Division late last year.

Gallego also played key role in the team’s 2013 FCAAF Championship victory.
