PLDT trips Army; Petron downs Cagayan Valley
MANILA, Philippines — The PLDT Home TVolution spoiled the debut of two-time champion Generika-Army in the 2014 Philippine Super Liga All-Filipino Conference with a hard-earned 28-26, 16-25, 29-27, 13-25, 15-12 victory Wednesday at Cuneta Astrodome in Pasay.
Skipper Suzanne Roces paced the Power Attackers’ charge with 17 points while Angela Benting added 13 to help PLDT improve its slate to 2-1.
In the second game, Dindin Santiago erupted for 31 points as Petron outlasted Cagayan Valley, 22-25, 25-14, 25-20, 25-21, to join idle AirAsia on top at 2-0.
Article continues after this advertisementSantiago, the top rookie pick who also had four service aces and three blocks, unleashed a league-high 37 points just last week in their win over PLDT.
Generika-Army star Rachel Daquis knotted the game at 12-all in the deciding set, but PLDT nailed the last three points behind Louann Latigay and Benting.
“I thought we were going to have a replay of our first game [but] luckily this time, we were fast enough to win the last set,” said PLDT Coach Roger Gorayeb.
