More NBA coverage up
A THREE-WAY partnership for the television broadcast of the NBA games in the country was forged recently among ABS-CBN, the NBA and Solar Entertainment Corp., which is airing for the 14th straight season the world’s premier basketball league.
Under the renewed contract, Solar, through its cable channels BTV and NBA Premium, and ABS-CBN, through its Sports and Action channels, will air more than 30 games every week. The two networks will also continue to broadcast WNBA games.
“Like before, we will continue to provide extensive coverage and promotion of all local NBA events like JR NBA/WNBA and NBA 3X,” said Solar chief Wilson Y. Tieng.
Also present during the contract-signing at NBA Café were William Tieng, NBA Asia managing director Scott Levy, ABS-CBN Narrowcast head March Ventosa and NBA legend Darryl Dawkins.

Only a few days earlier, another broadcast partnership was launched at PICC’s Plenary Hall.
Turner Broadcasting System Asia Pacific and 9 Media Corp. announced the launching of CNN Philippines, which is projected to be operational by the first quarter of 2015.
“The global news gathering power of CNN combined with the local perspective nine media corporation brings enables us to provide first class news and information to millions of Filipinos in a way that we have not been able to previously. I could not be happier to welcome CNN Philippines to the CNN family,” said Jeff Zucker, CNN World Wide president.
Reggie Galura, Nine Media Corp. president, on the other hand, stressed: “We are proud to offer our viewers a global perspective of key issues and worldwide trending stories as well as championing Filipino values and culture through locally produced content.”
Former ambassador Tony L. Cabangon Chua is the chair of Nine Media, a news channel which will definitely have a massive dose of sports stories.
