PBA All-Star: Rookies beat Sophomores despite Romeo’s 50

PUERTO PRINCESA, Philippines The Rookies, led by the athletic forward Matt Ganuelas-Rosser, beat the Sophomores, 150-131, on Friday night to cap the second day of 2015 PBA All-Star festivities here.

Rosser, the fourth overall pick by NLEX in this season’s draft, was all over the floor with 32 points.

“We just wanted to be here and put on a show.”

And what a show it was for the fans, who were left catching their breaths after seeing an up-and-down action right from the get-go.

Globalport guard Terrence Romeo owned the show for the most part, as he finished with a record of 50 points for the Sophomores squad.

It wasn’t an ordinary game of basketball with the offensive team having just 18 seconds on the shot clock and played in 10-minute quarters. A dunk is also worth three points, meant to make the game fast-paced and more offensive-oriented.

With the game already decided, the players opted to have a litte more fun to the crowd’s delight. With about a little under two minutes left, Sophomores’ center Raymond Almazan of Rain or Shine carried Romeo for the dunk.

On the other end, Jake Pascual lifted rookie guard Kevin Alas for the slam dunk. The final throwdown of the night came from the smallest player on the court with second-year guard Jeric Fortuna hammering a one-handed dunk home with the help of 6-foot-7 Almazan.
