UST downs Lyceum; SWU up
ED DACQUIOAG delivered down the stretch as University of Santo Tomas held off Lyceum, 72-66, yesterday even as Cebu champion Southwestern U notched its first win in the 2015 Filoil Flying V Hanes Premier Cup.
Dacquioag came through with a triple and two free throws in the last 23 seconds to preserve the Tigers’ lead in the face of the Pirates’ late uprising.
With the win, the Tigers evened their card to 3-3 for fifth spot in Group C while the Pirates dropped to 1-5.
Article continues after this advertisementLater, the Cobras barged into the win column after a 73-60 whipping of the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons before St. Benilde leaned on a balanced offensive to repulse Adamson, 79-68.
Five St. Benilde players led by Jonathan Grey scored at least eight points as the Blazers found their stride in the second half on their way to a second win in six games.
John Auditor sizzled from the perimeter with 16 points for SWU, but it was 17-year-old Congolese rookie Boko Mupungo who did most of the damage with 22 points and 18 rebounds.
