Tabuena nips Que in shootout
Miguel Tabuena bested Angelo Que in a shootout and emerged champion of the Aboitiz Invitational, the inaugural leg of the PGT Asia Tour at Manila Southwoods Friday. Combining solid shotmaking with hot putting, Tabuena shot a bogey-free seven-under 65 to nip Que, who tumbled with a wet double bogey on the par-3 16th, for the $17,500 champion’s purse. Counting his earlier rounds of 65-64-71, the 22-year-old Rio Olympian tallied a 23-under 265 total as against Que’s 266 built on a 64-69-66 and a closing 67. “It’s a great win. My putting was so good today (Friday),” said Tabuena. —ROY LUARCA
