Mac Cardona arrested for stabbing former live-in partner

Professional basketball player Mac Mac Cordona was arrested after stabbing his former live-in partner while “high on drugs” in her Makati City condominium early on Saturday.

According to a police report, Bianca Nicole Jackes, the former live-in partner of Cardona, was treated at Makati Medical Center for a stab wound in her left arm.

On her Instagram account, the 25-year-old Filipino-Australian said she was thankful that she was only hurt, but “it has done a lot of damage to my nerves, muscles.”

Jackes belied earlier reports, saying that no argument ensued between her and Cardona, and that he was “high on drugs” when he attacked her.

She said the 37-year-old Cardona went to her condominium unit on Malugay Street in Barangay San Antonio, around 5 a.m. on Saturday, after being separated for two years.

“He just showed up where I was staying with my two kids, and attacked me with a knife and stabbed me,” Jackes narrated.

“[He] went there high on drugs, and trying to get back with me, but I refused,” she added.

Jackes said she tried to calm Cardona down. “I didn’t even yell after getting stabbed because I didn’t want to wake up the kids.”

She then went all by herself to the hospital by hailing a cab.

The basketball player, whose real name is Mark Reynan Mikesell Cardona, was detained at the Makati City Police Station facing charges of attempted homicide and violation of Republic Act No. 9262, or the Anti-Violence Against Women and Their Children Act of 2004.

This is not the first time that Cardona was accused of domestic violence. In 2016, Jackes also filed cases for domestic violence against Cardona, leaving with her their two children.

In August 2016, Cardona was rushed to a Las Piñas hospital in an attempted suicide after overdosing on his medication drugs, photos of which he had posted on social media.

He later revealed in a TV interview in 2017 that he had b een diagnosed with bipolar disorder and depression.

In February 2018, Cardona was charged with estafa for allegedy selling a stolen sports utility vehicle, which has been alerted to the Philippine National Police – Highway Patrol Group, for P300,000.

Called “Captain Hook” for his effective teardrop shots in the court, Cardona has played for a couple of teams in the Philippine Basketball Association since 2005. His last known stint was in Global Port Batang Pier last year.

He is currently part of the San Juan Knights team of the regional basketball league, Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League. /atm
