Filipino gymnast to get Japanese training, scholarship

05:25 AM July 19, 2018

Filipino gymnast Carlos Edriel Yulo, who, based on recent performances, looms as a bright Asian Games and Olympic hopeful, recently accepted an offer by the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) to train in Japan.

The Gymnastics Association of the Philippines confirmed this development as the 18-year-old Yulo is also targeting the 2020 Olympics after a stint in the Asian Games in Indonesia next month.

Yulo bagged a silver medal in the men’s floor event in the Doha World Cup in Qatar last March 25, after another silver medal performance in the vault during the Baku World Cup a week earlier.

The JOC has also pledged a scholarship program for Yulo in Japan.
