Tennessee State University linebacker Christian Abercrombie remained in critical condition Sunday a day after collapsing with a head injury during a game, his coach told a Nashville radio station.

Coach Rod Reed said there had been no change in Abercrombie’s condition overnight.

Abercrombie had been rushed to hopsital where he underwent emergency surgery after collapsing on the sideline of Tennesse State’s game against Vanderbilt University on Saturday.

“He was removed from the game and as they were taking him into the locker room he collapsed and the EMTs took over from there,” Reed said.

Reed said TSU coaches had reviewed video of the play on which Abercrombie was hurt and found it was within the rules.
