Rodriguez, Santos share Petron GT race 5 honors

Edwin Rodriguez sustained his blistering pace for the Yokohama Grand Touring 200 overall title by splitting round 5 honors with nemesis Paulo Ivan Santos in the 2018 Petron Philippine Motorsports Championships at Batangas Racing Circuit in Rosario town recently.

Rodriguez, the 2016 GT Driver of the Year, topped Race 2 in his Honda FD with a time of 19 minutes and 4.540 seconds over 10 laps around the sleek 3.7-kilometer circuit, seizing the front from Santos with two laps to go and pipping his fierce rival by a mere 0.357 of a second.

Santos earlier came back from mechanical problems in his own Honda FD in the previous leg to kick off the fifth of the six-round series with a decisive 9.485-second triumph over Rodriguez in 19:07.414.

Paul Santos, the elder of the father-and-son racing pair who also drove an FD, clinched third place in Race 1 in 19:40.271, followed by female sensation Kathy Villar.

Villar ruled the GT 150 class in Race 1 over Lewy Manio to increase her overall lead by 15 points over Russ Agapito.

Sports, wellness buffs gather in 5th Crosby fest

The Gemmalyn Crosby Sports Festival (GCSF), the biggest gathering of athletes, sports, fitness and wellness enthusiasts in the Philippines, holds its fifth season this weekend at Philippine International Convention Center.

The annual event, founded by Gemmalyn Crosby, the first Philippine IFBB (International Federation of Body Building & Fitness) pro card holder, features contests in bodybuilding, dancesport, basketball, Brazilian jiujitsu, taekwondo, karatedo, Filipino martial arts, mixed martial arts, muay Thai, boxing, fencing, wrestling, weightlifting, and zumba, among others. There will also be booths on brands that support wellness and nutrition.

A fun run will kick off the sportsfest in three categories—3K, 5K and 10K.
