UST wins double championship; Rondina, Tigresses make UAAP beach volley history

University of Santo Tomas pulled off a double championship in the UAAP Season 81 beach volleyball tournament Sunday.

Sisi Rondina and Babylove Barbon made history after delivering UST’s third straight women’s beach volleyball championship and a perfect season following a 21-7, 21-16, win over Mich Morente and Tin Tiamzon of La Salle in the finals.

 “I was able to prove to myself that I can do it,” Rondina, who won her fourth season MVP award, said in Filipino.

“I started my first year thinking that I won’t be able to prove what I can do because I don’t have the height. But it changed when we started winning. The MVP is just a bonus for me. My goal is to help UST win,” Rondina added.

The Tigers on the other hand, regained the men’s crown after Krung Arbasto and Jaron Requinton dashed the perfect run of Far Eastern University’s Jude Garcia and Richard Solis, 21-13, 22-24, 15-10.

The celebration didn’t end their for UST after Requinton and Barbon were also named Rookie of the Year in their respective divisions.
