PH wrestlers home with 2-3-2 loot

Jhonny Morte and Alvin Lobreguito capped the year with two gold medals in the Jagsport Wrestling Championships in Singapore as the Philippine Go For Gold wrestling team goes full blast in its preparations for the 30th Southeast Asian Games next year.

Lobreguito, a bronze medalist in the 2017 Asian Indoor Martial Arts Games, beat Zhe-Xiu Liu of Chinese Taipei in the the 57-kilogram men’s freestyle finals while Morte then topped the 65-kg category at the expense of teammate Jonathan Maquilan.

Two-time SEA Games gold medalist Margarito Angana Jr. also settled for a silver, bowing to Eko Roni Saputra of Indonesia in the 61-kg championship.

“With continued support, they can bring us gold medals in the coming SEA Games,” said Go For Gold’s Jeremy Go.

Also bagging a silver medal in the 86-kg men’s freestyle was Royce Madison King Tiu, who lost to Brian Siano of the United States.

The Filipinos also brought home two bronze medals courtesy of Ronil Tubog (61 kg) and junior wrestler Cadel Evance Hualda (80 kg).

The Philippines will host the Games slated Nov. 30 to Dec. 11.
