Ginebra teammates show love for Slaughter

MANILA, Philippines—Japeth Aguilar turned emotional when he learned about Greg Slaughter’s planned break from the PBA.

Barangay Ginebra’s twin towers have been teammates since 2013 and Slaughter’s announcement on Instagram that he would be taking a leave from basketball left Aguilar stunned.

“Gonna miss you brother, but I know the best part is yet to come for you,” wrote Aguilar, commenting on Slaughter’s post. “Love you.”

Slaughter had a similar reply and he wrote that playing with Aguilar “has been a pleasure.”

Sol Mercado, who was teammates with both Slaughter and Aguilar from 2015 to 2019, also showed his appreciation for the 7-foot center.

“Praying for you my brother. All love on this end,” wrote Mercado. “It was a great joy to be teammates and achieve great things together.”

Cassandra Naidas-Aguilar, Japeth’s wife, also tweeted her sadness “Twin towers” with the broken heart emoji from Slaughter’s sudden announcement

Aguilar then retweeted his wife’s tweet with the caption “It will never be the same.”

Slaughter, Aguilar, and Mercado shared three straight Governors’ Cup titles.
