MANILA, Philippines—Beleaguered center Greg Slaughter apologized to San Miguel Corporation President Ramon S. Ang and Barangay Ginebra governor Alfrancis Chua for how he acted in the past regarding his decision to step away from the PBA and his team.

In an Instagram Story, Slaughter said that he had misunderstandings with the SMC brass and he admits that he may have caused some ill will when he decided to leave the Gin Kings back in February.

“My only regret is that the communication between myself and management, particularly Boss RSA and coach Alfrancis Chua did not go as smoothly as I would have wanted,” posted Slaughter Tuesday.

“I want to apologize to them and the rest of management for any misunderstanding or bad feelings that may have occurred because of my decision.”

Slaughter went to the United States in February to train individually after becoming a free agent after his contract with Ginebra expired.

The 7-foot center also tied the knot to longtime girlfriend Schinina earlier this month.

“In light of the events between Ginebra and myself over this past year, I just want to clear up some matters,” wrote Slaughter, who has said he is raring to return to action. “My intention was purely to improve myself both as a person and as a basketball player.”

“The time away has made me a better person in all aspects and now, as a married man, I am very excited at the prospect of being able to play again.”

Despite being away from the team, Slaughter congratulated the Gin Kings on winning the 2020 Philippine Cup earlier this December.

Slaughter was the first overall pick of the 2013 PBA Draft and has won four titles with the Gin Kings including the 2017 Governors’ Cup Best Player of the Conference.

“My only wish for the coming year is to leave that in the past and have the opportunity to suit up again for the best fans in the world,” wrote Slaughter. “I have learned so much this past year and I am excited to show everyone that the next phase of my career will be the best one yet.”
